Binance founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao has ignited a social media firestorm with a “bombshell” claim that X, formerly Twitter, and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is, in fact, an extraterrestrial entity who is currently planning a return to his home planet of Mars.

During his recent remarks, the crypto mogul claimed that Musk’s relentless pursuit of Mars colonisation is not merely a scientific ambition but a strategic homecoming as he is “an alien” from Mars on a quest to make a journey homeward.

CZ’s offbeat comments have gripped the attention of the users online as they come at a moment of heightened public interest in unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) and alien life. The White House and the Pentagon on Friday has declassified a tranche of aerospace files that US President Trump has hinted contain “unbelievable” revelations about extraterrestrial life.

While Zhao’s remarks may have been a humorous take on Musk’s obsessive focus on establishing a “Mars colony,”  they quickly went viral across platforms like X and Instagram.

The Red Planet is acting as a “stepping stone” for Musk to reconnect with his origins, CZ argued, asserting that the billionaire is not originally from Earth and may not even be a human. The commentary has resonated with a public obsessed with a new batch of US government “aliens” and “UFO” disclosures, which some speculate are increasingly redefining human understanding of the extraterrestrial existence.

It is interesting to note that Musk, himself, on one occasion claimed that he’s an alien, adding that humanity might be alone in the universe. During an appearance at the World Economic Forum (WEF) at Davos, the tech billionaire told BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, “I’m often asked, ‘Are there aliens among us?’ And I’ll say that I am one.” He added that he believes that it is very unlikely there is intelligent life beyond Earth.

“I think we need to assume that life and consciousness are extremely rare, and it might only be us,” Musk said. He underpinned that humans “need to do everything possible to ensure that the light of consciousness is not extinguished.”

SpaceX CEO repeated his claims during an appearance at the Viva Tech event in Paris, reiterating that he is an alien but “nobody believes him.” Speaking at a session titled “Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Elon Musk But Were Afraid to Ask,” inspired by a Woody Allen movie, Musk declared, “I am an alien. Yeah, I keep saying I’m an alien, but nobody believes me.”

Pentagon’s New ‘UFO’ Files

The timing of the Binance founder’s claims aligns with a serious shift in US government transparency regarding the aliens. The Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) finalised a comprehensive report on several high-profile UAP sightings documented by military personnel. According to files released by the US Department of Defence, investigations have focused on objects that display flight characteristics seemingly defying the known laws of physics.

The “UFO Files” are dubbed the most detailed to date about the existence of alien life, moving beyond footage to include radar data and pilot testimonies.

US President Trump has fuelled this anticipation as he dropped hints during recent press briefings, suggesting that the public now has access to information that has been “kept in the dark for far too long”.

The atmosphere of mystery has provided the perfect backdrop for CZ’s playful jabs at Musk as Trump himself noted that the release of some “very interesting” UFO files confirmed aliens may, after all, be real. In the buildup to the UFO releases, Trump created buzz saying that “the American people deserve transparency and truth.”

With CZ’s claims, netizens began jokingly connecting the billionaire’s “alien-like” work ethic and vision to the US government report.

Musk’s Martian Ambitions

The narrative that Elon Musk might be an alien is rooted in Musk’s narrative classifying Mars as a “home planet.” Binance founder’s comments were aimed at SpaceX founder’s seemingly non-human drive to reach the Red planet. Musk has famously stated that he wishes to “die on Mars, just not on impact,” a statement that CZ humorously reinterpreted as a desire to return to his true base, which is not the planet Earth.

The internet discourse is taking place as Musk’s space firm SpaceX continues to test its latest heavy-lift vehicles and aims to launch its first uncrewed Starship missions to Mars as early as 2026, with crewed flights following by 2029 and 2031. Neither Musk nor SpaceX has officially commented on the “alien” label.
