According to a BTG Pactual/Nexus poll conducted in Brazil recently, president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva currently holds the lead in the presidential race, ahead of the official general election in October.
However, that lead is quite slim. Still, if elections were to be held in Brazil right now, Lula would receive close to 47% of the votes, while his right wing rival senator Flavio Bolsonaro would lag with 44% votes. This means that a run off would be required to determine the winner. It is important to note that the poll carries a margin of error of two percentage points.

Brazil’s presidential election is scheduled for October 4, 2026.
If no presidential candidate receives more than 50% of the valid votes in the first round, a runoff will then be held on October 25, 2026.
