According to preliminary information released by Chicago police, at least seven people lost their lives, and 38 others suffered injuries in multiple shootings since Friday evening.

Police say the violence unfolded across several areas of the city over three days. Among those killed were a 21-year-old man who was shot in the chest on Sunday, an 18-year-old victim fatally wounded Saturday evening and a 50-year-old man killed in a shooting on Friday.

Several other incidents left multiple victims hospitalised with gunshot wounds. Authorities have not indicated that all of the shootings were connected, but the combined toll made it one of the deadliest weekends in recent months.

Chicago Shootings Latest Update: Juneteenth Celebration Accompanied by Mass Shooting

One of the most serious incidents occurred during Juneteenth celebrations on Friday evening.

Police said at least 12 people were shot after an SUV approached a crowd and individuals inside opened fire before fleeing the scene.

The victims included eight men and four women, ranging in age from teenagers to adults. Emergency responders transported the injured to several hospitals across the city for treatment.

The shooting occurred on a day intended to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States, adding to public shock and outrage surrounding the attack.

Earlier in the day, former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama welcomed visitors to the Obama Presidential Centre on Chicago’s South Side.

The president’s comments quickly generated political debate, with supporters arguing for stronger federal involvement and critics questioning whether military intervention would address the underlying causes of crime.

Governor Pritzker’s office did not immediately issue a response to Trump’s latest remarks.
