BRASÍLIA, Oct 21 (Reuters) - A powerful association of Chinese beef importers has committed to buying Brazilian meat free of deforestation in an unprecedented move, according to Brazilian NGO Institute for Forest and Agricultural Management and Certification (Imaflora) on Tuesday. Imaflora, which is launching a new certification called Beef on Track (BoT) during an industry event in Brasília, said 100 importers belonging to China's Tianjin Meat Association have made a commitment to purchasing at least 50,000 tons of beef bearing the BoT certification by June 2026, the equivalent of 2,500 20-ton containers. The association accounts for 15% of all Chinese beef imports from Brazil, Imaflora said. (Reporting by Ana Mano) (The article has been published through a syndicated feed.
