US President Donald Trump has signed a new directive prescribing what the White House has called ‘Gold Standards’ recommendations for 11 children’s vaccines.While speaking in the Oval Office Trump stated that the order marks “a major victory for parents rights, religious and constitutional rights, and for the gold standard science” . The President also claimed that there may be a connection between the amount of vaccines or timing of vaccines and the rise in autism cases in the US, despite a clear lack of evidence.
MMR Vaccine to Be Split After Trump’s Order?
The MMR vaccine is a combination vaccination that provides immunity against measles, mumps and rubella. It is administered to children twice, once between 12 and 15 months and then again between 4 to 6 years.
According to the WHO, vaccinated children get over 97% protection against the diseases, after receiving both doses. But Trump’s order proposes that there should be 3 separate shots for measles, mumps and rubella, instead of a combined vaccine.

Federal health agency Center for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC), currently maintains a three-tiered framework for childhood vaccination and includes 11 vaccines. While Trump’s order recommends reducing that number to 8. The US recently appointed the agency’s latest director, Dr Erika Schwartz.
Trump Children Vaccination Row: When Will the New Order Be Enforced?
A formal implementation timeline for Trump’s new executive order on vaccines has not been shared yet. As per the administrative guidelines by White House, the CDC & other federal health agencies will have a 90-day window to review the guidelines & suggest any changes
The White House has also clarified that free vaccines provided through the Vaccines for Children program would not be affected by the new executive order.
