US President Donald Trump clashed with CNN senior White House correspondent Kristen Holmes after she asked him about comments made by Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff concerning Trump’s executive assistant, Natalie Harp. The Georgia senator slammed Trump for appearing more interested in building his White House ballroom and travelling with Harp than doing his job.
When Holmes asked Trump for his response, the president did not directly address the allegation about Harp. Instead, he described Ossoff as a “Pee-wee Herman lookalike” and ordered her to ‘be quiet’. Later on in the same event, Holmes asked Trump about his decision to scale back joint US-South Korea military exercises and his growing relationship with North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jong Un.
The president then told her, “Quiet. Quiet. Quiet. You’re very disrespectful.” He also described Holmes, a senior reporter, as a “loud, boisterous person,” and a “fake reporter”.

Kristen Holmes is an American journalist who currently serves as the Senior White House Correspondent for American news channel CNN. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University (2009) and a Master of Science in Broadcast Journalism & Filmmaking from Columbia University. Holmes gained nationwide prominence after her tense faceoff with President Trump at the Oval Office recently. The White House website describes her as a “media offender”.

During the recent Oval Office event where he hosted Ryder Williams, President Trump levelled a slew of allegations against Kristen Holmes. He accused Holmes of peddling “fake news” and being a “fake reporter”, while also describing her as “loud” and “boisterous.” . He challenged Holmes over her conduct in front of the young people being honoured, asking whether she was being disrespectful.
After the event, the White House’s Rapid Response account also attacked Holmes online. One of the posts called out Holmes as a “disgraceful, humiliating embarrassment to her alleged profession”. It added that “Someday, your children will come across your disgusting and inhumane question.” & claimed that her children would be “sickened and embarrassed” by her questions to President Trump.

CNN, the employer of Kristen Holmes, weighed in on the Trump-Holmes row & stated that “Public officials are free to challenge reporting they disagree with, but personal attacks on journalists for asking questions are beneath the office and inconsistent with the principles of a free press”. The network also praised Holmes as “one of the most respected and accomplished journalists covering the White House”.
