Multiple explosions were reported in Dubai’s Jebel Ali industrial zone early Wednesday, triggering a massive fire and thick smoke near one of the UAE’s busiest logistics hubs. Authorities have launched an investigation, while the exact cause of the blasts remains unconfirmed. Videos shared on social media showed large flames and thick black smoke rising from the area. According to reports, at least seven explosions were heard within about 20 minutes.
The blasts occurred near Jebel Ali Port, one of the UAE’s largest ports and a key logistics, shipping, and fuel storage hub. Officials have not yet confirmed the extent of the damage or whether anyone was injured.
What Caused The Explosions?
The exact cause of the explosions has not been officially confirmed. Iran’s Mehr News Agency claimed the blasts were caused by a missile attack launched from Yemen. However, Emirati authorities have not confirmed this claim, and no official evidence has been released linking the incident to an attack. Reports said a large fire broke out after the explosions. According to local media, NASA’s thermal imagery reportedly detected a fire at a warehouse located near Jebel Ali Port, where fuel storage and transfer facilities are situated.
According to reports, Emirati officials detained two individuals who were allegedly filming the explosions as videos of the incident spread across social media. Authorities have not yet released a detailed statement explaining what caused the blasts.
Were Explosions Also Reported In Yemen?
Around the same time, explosions were also reported in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen. Some reports suggested the sounds were caused by airstrikes, while others claimed missiles had been launched from Yemeni territory. These reports have not been independently confirmed. Some local media reports suggested Yemen’s Houthi rebels may have targeted the Jebel Ali industrial area. However, there has been no official confirmation from either the UAE authorities or the Houthis regarding responsibility for the incident.
The explosions come at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran. The UAE has remained on high alert in recent months due to concerns that regional tensions could spill over into Gulf countries.
