England Local Elections 2026: In England, voters will head to the polls on May 07, 2026, to cast their votes with more than 5,000 council seats, as pollsters predict the results of the elections. According to the polls, the Labour Party can experience a disastrous result in this election. Here’s everything you need to know about England’s local elections and poll predictions.

England Local Elections: May 07, 2026

Local Elections in England will be held on May 07, 2026, with more than 5,000 council seats.

England Local Elections 2026: Polls Prediction of Labour, Green & Reform

Sir Keir Starmer of the Labour Party is facing a local election wipeout in just over a week. It is predicted that the party could see its worst-ever result.

However, the Reform and the Green parties are predicted to be the big winners at the election, as polling shows discontent with both the Labour and the Conservative parties growing.

Out of the 5,000 English council seats being contested this year, the Labour party is defending just over half of the seats, i.e., 2,557, and is projected to lose between 50% and 74%.

Meanwhile, the Reform party is projected to gain over 1,300 seats from a base of just 3, more than doubling its current number of councillors to 2,342.

On the other hand, the Green party is expected to get good results as projections see them gain 555 from a base of 141, while the Lib Dems could gain 393.

However, similar to last year’s event, the Conservative Party suffered another defeat, facing a loss of 907 councillors from a base of 1,362, a drop of two-thirds.

England Local Elections: Previous Year

In last year’s Local Elections, the Labour party last two-thirds of its seats in England, which is one of the party’s worst results in history.

It was polling around the mid-20s at the point, and then dropped to 19, which means it can experience even more disastrous results this year.

England Local Elections 2026: Who will Win?

On a council level, the Reform party is set to translate its massive gains into overall control of several councils across the country.

Sunderland is forecast to comfortably flip from Labour to Reform control, with Thurrock, Wakefield, and Barnsley projected to go the same way.

However, Nigel Farage’s party is also projected to take several councils from Conservative control, including Essex, Norfolk, and Suffolk.

Meanwhile, the Green Party is expected to do well in London and form a minority of councillors in 6 boroughs across the capital, possibly even taking outright control of Hackney.

In Hastings, Zack Polanski’s party is also polling well, which currently has no overall control, and is understood to be targeting to take over the seat.

However, it is expected that both of the rapidly expanding parties could also grow to be the minority party in the contested councils after the election, or it may push the Labour party to become a minority in areas it is currently controlling.
