Fact Check: Did Trump Really Make ‘Hundreds of Billions’ for the US From Intel Stock as Shares Surged From $20 to $95?

Trump’s Intel stock claim exaggerates the evidence as the US stake has gained billions on paper, but “hundreds of billions” remains unverified.

Donald Trump Latest News: US President Donald Trump, has sparked discussions on his investments into corporations due to posting a seemingly computer-generated photo of an increase in the cost of Intel from $20 to $95. In the post on Truth Social, he also noted that he made “Hundreds of Billions of Dollars” for the USA through stocks and others. Yet, the post is not the proof of a real stock transaction. According to public data, the USA indeed has substantial investments in Intel and its cost increased dramatically. Still, the provided figures do not prove Trump’s claims.

Intel Stock Has Risen Sharply

The value of Intel was at $95.80 per share on September 4, 2026, following a gain of 4.51% in one trading session. In the last year, the price range for the stock has been between $24.05 and $142.35. Based on the government’s purchasing cost of $20.47 per share, the current price is a gain of approximately 368% from their original value. This huge increase can be seen as a key reason behind Intel being a major factor in the case presented by Trump on government investments.

US Government’s Intel Stake

In August 2025, the US government decided to purchase 433.3 million Intel shares at a price of $20.47 each, thus owning a 9.9% stake in the company. This investment was estimated to be worth approximately $8.9 billion and involved the issuance of shares based on an agreement made using government funds that had been set aside before. If the 433.3 million shares have been held by the government and each was worth $95.80, then the value of those shares would now stand at around $41.5 billion and this means an unrealized gain of about $32.6 billion.

Why the Trump Claim Is Misleading

The key issue here is the difference between the value of an asset on the one hand, and real money made on the other. An equity may soar in price but without any profit being made until stocks are sold. This means that the government’s stake in Intel is an unrealized profit at the current market price, which will be reduced if the price of Intel drops and there is also no public information on Trump making “hundreds of billions for the country.”

AI Image Is Not Financial Evidence

The chart created by Trump is meant to demonstrate the rise in value of Intel stock rather than evidence of a completed deal. The chart indicates the purchase of Intel stock at about $20 and its current worth at about $95. But a picture can never show when stocks were purchased, if they have been sold, or how much profit was made. This is especially significant, considering that the transaction was made using the government’s funds. Trump has been known to use AI images in his posts on Truth Social.

Verdict: Large Intel Gain, But “Hundreds of Billions” Unproven

The US government has benefited substantially on paper from its Intel investment. Based on the September 4 closing price of $95.80, the stake’s unrealised appreciation could be around $32.6 billion if the full 433.3 million shares remain in government hands. That figure is significant, but it is nowhere close to “hundreds of billions.” No publicly available accounting currently establishes that Trump has generated hundreds of billions of dollars in stock gains for the United States. The Intel investment is real and the spectacular stock increase is real. The much larger claim remains unsupported by the available evidence.
