New York-based food manufacturer Hampton Grocers recently initiated a voluntary recall for some lots of its Lacnola Lactation granola pouches over possible contamination by salmonella.
The granola pouches are sold nationwide through mail orders from the company’s website and through online retailers including Amazon . It comes in 8 pound (3.62kg) pouches. It contains the lot codes of HGLC-102125 and HGLC-021326. The affected product is sold to breastfeeding mothers.
Salmonella is a type of bacteria that occurs in all types of foods, ranging from processed nut butters to fresh fruits and vegetables. The bacteria causes salmonellosis, a disease which affects the human digestive tract. With treatment, it can be cured within 4 to 7 days.
Hampton Grocers Granola Recall: Why Did the Recall Happen?
Some time ago, an ingredient supplier notified Hampton Grocers that a sample of its product had tested positive for Salmonella, after which the company informed the federal health agency, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Then, a voluntary recall was launched for some lots of the granola, which is meant for breastfeeding mothers. Hampton Grocers is working in coordination with the FDA as part of the ongoing investigation.

The FDA has said that the recalled granola was distributed nationwide & sold in all 50 states. For most of the other recalls, the FDA publishes a specific list of states depending on where the product is sold & distributed.
