This morning, an earthquake of magnitude 5 suddenly struck the Khuezestan province of Iran, which has been subjected to multiple attacks this month from American forces during the renewed war. According to reports from local media, the quake occurred at a depth of about 12 kilometres (7.5 miles). No casualties from the earthquake have been reported so far.

The epicentre of today’s Khuzestan earthquake has been located in the Saland area. The exact epicenter is Saland, located roughly 17 kilometres or 10.5 miles southeast of the city of Andimeshk and just north of Dezful. The Southwestern and Western parts of Iran which include theKhuzestan, Kermanshah and Hormozgan provinces are located on an active tectonic plate.

The earthquake in Iran’s Khuzestan province occurred mainly in Saland or Sarand, a hilly community within the Dezful county. However its tremors could also be felt in other parts of southwestern Iran, southeastern Iraq, and some parts of Kuwait.

According to the country’s media the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has acted swiftly and deployed 2 rescue teams to the site of the earthquake.
Mohammad Reza Mowlaizadeh, the governor of Khuzestan province acknowledged the earthquake and has declared a high state of readiness, issuing immediate instructions for the full mobilization of all regional rescue and operational forces. The rescue teams are exploring the extent of the earthquake’s damage and conducting checks on residents.
The local authorities have also issued guidelines urging the public to remain calm while maintaining vigilance against potential aftershocks as well as American attacks.
