Iran US Talk: Iran and the United States are set to begin a third round of nuclear negotiations in Switzerland, even as tensions increase due to fresh US sanctions and a growing American military presence in the Middle East. Despite the pressure, both sides have publicly maintained that they prefer a diplomatic solution.

At the same time, the Trump administration is reportedly wary of a prolonged conflict, believing that sustained fighting with Iran could severely strain US munitions stockpiles and potentially give China an opportunity to move against Taiwan, according to Politico.

A video from a Current Report posted on X showing how US President Trump does not favour any war as it affects a lot to any nation.

Iran US Talk: Abbas Araghchi Arrives in Geneva for Talks

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Geneva on Wednesday and met Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, who is mediating the indirect talks scheduled for Thursday.

Before leaving Tehran, Araghchi said a “fair, balanced and equitable deal” was achievable. He again stressed that Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons and will not surrender its “right to peaceful use of nuclear technology.”

US Accuses Iran of Nuclear Rebuilding Efforts

In Washington, US Vice President JD Vance accused Iran of attempting to rebuild its nuclear programme following US attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities last year. “The principle is very simple, Iran can’t have a nuclear weapon,” Vance said, adding that President Donald Trump prefers diplomacy but “has other options as well.”

The true condition of Iran’s nuclear sites remains uncertain. While Trump has claimed the programme was obliterated, inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency have not been allowed to verify damage at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

Iran US Talk: Ballistic Missile Issue a Major Sticking Point

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Geneva talks would mainly focus on Iran’s nuclear activities but warned that Iran’s ballistic missile programme is a “big, big problem.” Iran has rejected missile negotiations, with Araghchi stating that Iran’s missiles are defensive and meant only to “build deterrence and help us to defend ourselves.”

Iran US Talk: New US Sanctions and Military Build-Up

The US Treasury has announced new sanctions against more than 30 individuals and entities accused of supporting Iran’s oil sales, missile programme, and weapons production.

At the same time, the US has deployed aircraft carriers, warships, and advanced fighter jets to the Middle East. Iran has warned that any attack would lead to retaliation against US military bases and could result in the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route.

Iran US Talk: Outlook Remains Uncertain

Although both sides say they prefer diplomacy, major disagreements remain over uranium enrichment, missile development, and Iran’s regional role. Talks continue, but the path to a final agreement between Washington and Tehran remains uncertain.
