Iran-US Tensions: A senior adviser to the president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Anwar Gargash said the Middle East cannot afford another clash between the United States and Iran. Speaking at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, he stressed that Tehran should work toward a nuclear agreement with Washington to avoid more instability in the region.

Iran-US War: Nuclear Talks to Resume Amid Rising Tensions

Iran and the U.S. are set to restart nuclear negotiations on Friday in Turkey, according to officials from both countries. At the same time, U.S. President Donald Trump warned that serious consequences could follow if no agreement is reached, as American warships are moving closer to Iran.

The UAE, a key power in the Gulf region, believes a lasting diplomatic solution is necessary. “I think that the region has gone through various calamitous confrontations. I don’t think we need another one, but I would like to see direct Iranian-American negotiations leading to understandings so that we don’t have these issues every other day,” the UAE president’s advisor Anwar Gargash said.

Iran-US Tensions: Diplomatic Push in Istanbul

Efforts to revive diplomacy will continue in Istanbul, where U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi are expected to meet. Their goal is to reduce tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme and prevent another major regional conflict. A regional diplomat said countries like Saudi Arabia and Egypt may also take part.

Iran-US Tensions: Military Build-Up and Internal Unrest in Iran

The U.S. naval presence near Iran increased after Iran experienced a harsh crackdown on anti-government protests last month. This unrest was described as the deadliest since the 1979 revolution. Although Trump did not intervene during the protests, he later pushed Iran to make nuclear compromises and sent more naval forces toward the region. He recently said Iran was “seriously talking”, while Iranian security official Ali Larijani confirmed preparations for talks.

Iran-US Tensions: UAE’s Regional Challenges and Criticism

The UAE, known as a regional trade and business hub, has faced criticism over its role in regional conflicts. Tensions rose in December between the UAE and Saudi Arabia over Yemen. Even after Emirati forces withdrew following a Saudi airstrike, disagreements between the two Gulf nations continued.

The UAE has also been criticised online for allegedly supporting separatists in Yemen and for claims of backing a paramilitary group accused of crimes in Sudan’s conflict. Gargash rejected these accusations and suggested that online campaigns distort reality.

“I was reading a message that said we were getting 45,000 hate tweets every day on the Sudan issue and on our position in Sudan. And suddenly Yemen was an issue, and suddenly the Sudan bots were reduced from 45,000 to 3,000 a day, so the whole group moved on to another fight,” he said.

Iran-US Tensions: UAE Call for Stability Through Dialogue

Overall, the UAE’s message is clear: the Middle East needs stability, not another war. Officials believe direct talks between Iran and the U.S. are the best path forward to reduce tensions and prevent repeated crises.
