As of now, Erfan Soltani has not been sentenced to death and is still alive, according to the Iranian State media. His family has reported that it had been told his execution had been postponed.
Amid mass protest and a crackdown by the Khamenei-led regime, Iran on Wednesday executed 26-year-old Soltani, who was detained last week.
There are no direct public quotes from Ayatollah Khamenei explicitly discussing or naming Erfan Soltani’s execution despite receiving a fresh threat from America to hit Iran if the government continues its violent crackdown on demonstrations across the country.
Speaking earlier Friday, Khamenei mocked Trump’s frequent promise to intervene if Iran were to kill protesters. He urged Trump to better pay better attention to problems in the US.
“The Islamic Republic will not back down in the face of vandals,” Kamenei said, adding the protesters were only acting to please the US president. “Trump should know that world tyrants were brought down at the peak of their arrogance,” he said. “He, too, will be brought down.”
Speaking to the reporters earlier this day, Trump said, “We were told that the killing in Iran is stopping… and there are no plans for executions, an execution or executions. I’ve been told that on good authority. We’ll find out about it.”
Donald Trump also warned the Iranian government against carrying out executions. “Very strong action” if Iran began hanging protesters. “If they hang them, you’re going to see some things,” Trump said without giving further details on the action, Trump said.
