Iran-Israel Latest Update Day 9: The regional crisis has escalated to include more parties, involving the United States and armed groups in the Middle East due to the conflict between Iran and Israel. Current strikes, missile launches and inter-border warfare have claimed the lives of more than 1,300 and injured thousands more and posed a threat to oil routes that transport close to 20 percent of the world energy requirements.
Authorities in Dubai and Abu Dhabi issued safety alerts after their air defence systems detected missiles heading their way, launched from Iran. The United Arab Emirates confirmed their defence systems intercepted missiles, including ballistic and cruise missiles and drones launched from Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi justified the Iranian attacks on US military installations in the Middle East saying they were a legitimate self-defence measure as stipulated by international law. The attacks were said to have targeted US bases and other logistical outposts in the region according to the Iranian authorities following what Tehran termed imposed war. Iran asserts that it is the activities of Israel and Washington that provoked the conflict and not the hostility of Tehran.
Israel broadened its military operation and initiated coordinated attacks in southern Lebanon, the capital of Beirut as well as energy storage facilities in Tehran. Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave indication that more stages of the war would lead to unpredictable events. According to the Israeli officials, the operations will be intended to destabilize Iran supported networks and curtail the strategic skills of Tehran within the region.
The war has entered a dangerous new phase according to the Iranian authorities, which condemned the attacks on the fuel storage facilities. The spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baqaei told that the strikes would lead to serious environmental and humanitarian outcomes. A stern warning was given by the Israeli Defence Forces about any change of leadership in Iran in the future. Israel also marked that the persons who participated in appointing and replacing the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei of Iran might be regarded as fair targets in the conflict.
The focus of politics within Iran has changed to the possibility of a succession in leadership. The Assembly of Experts members will be able to meet in Qom and debate the future of the highest Iranian political and religious institution, which may alter the political course of the country in the period of war.
Energy trade in the world is already being affected by the conflict. India that imports almost 88 percent of its crude oil has started purchasing more products in parts of the world beyond the Strait of Hormuz. In India, it is shown through government sources that more than 70% of the oil imports in India are non-conflict supply routes in 2026, as opposed to approximately 60 percent in 2025, which is an attempt to avoid exposure to geopolitical uncertainties.
Iran’s former Parliament speaker, Ali Larijani, warned the United States of dire consequences over its involvement in the war. He warned that even though the United States tried to impose military pressure on Iran, it failed to achieve its strategic goals.
United States Central Command warned civilians in Iran to stay indoors as missile attacks rise in the area. According to CENTCOM’s Commander Brad Cooper, Iranian forces have launched hundreds of missiles and thousands of drones into the area since February 28. Some of these drones were launched from cities such as Isfahan and Shiraz.
The humanitarian crisis in Lebanon continues to rise after Israeli attacks killed at least 394 people, including 83 children, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry figures. More than 1,130 others were injured in the attacks, showing the severity of the situation in Lebanon as it continues to spread in the region.
