The deadly conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran has intensified dramatically, with the Iranian Red Crescent reporting that 555 people have been killed across more than 130 cities following US and Israeli airstrikes. The rapidly rising death toll highlights how quickly the confrontation has escalated into a broader regional crisis.
According to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, 555 people have lost their lives since US and Israeli forces began striking Iranian targets over the weekend. Earlier figures released on February 28 cited 201 deaths, meaning the latest update marks a significant jump in casualties within days of the conflict’s outbreak.
The Red Crescent said in a Telegram post that “Following the Zionist-American terrorist attacks carried out in various regions of our country, 131 cities have been affected to date, and, regrettably, 555 of our compatriots have been killed.”
No updated figures for the number of wounded have been released, but previous reports included 747 injured.
Amid the mounting casualties, Israel announced a major military mobilization. The Israel Defense Forces has called up 100,000 reservists as part of preparations to expand operations beyond Iran and into other theatres of the widening conflict.
The Israeli army described the mobilisation as being part of “Operation Roaring Lion,” preparing to absorb the additional troops. Israeli forces have also ramped up offensive actions against Hezbollah in Lebanon, with airstrikes reportedly targeting the southern suburbs of Beirut and other areas.
In response to the strikes, Iran’s military said it attacked Ali al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait with 15 cruise missiles, along with other enemy ships near India, state television reported.
Eyewitnesses in Kuwait described explosions and smoke near the US embassy, leading officials to urge citizens to shelter in place. While the embassy did not confirm whether it was hit, the advisory emphasised ongoing missile and drone threats.
Iran has also launched missile and drone barrages targeting US bases and allied facilities in Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, as part of its retaliation against the combined US–Israeli offensive.
The death toll figures include both military and civilian casualties, though detailed breakdowns are not yet available. The updated number reflects how lethal the air campaign has been across urban and provincial areas in Iran, including impacts in cities previously untouched by direct strikes.
The broader conflict has also triggered attacks and counter-attacks in neighbouring countries, with multiple Gulf states reporting strikes and material damage amid rising fears of an even wider war across the Middle East.
As the situation evolves, both Tehran and Jerusalem show no signs of backing down. Israel’s bolstered reserve mobilisation signals its intent to sustain military pressure, while Iran’s expansive retaliatory strikes suggest a long and unpredictable phase of conflict. For now, the rapidly rising death toll and expanding fronts continue to raise alarm across the region and globally.
