Kentucky Floods Latest Update: Governor Andy Beshear to Seek Federal Aid, As Floods Trigger State of Emergency & More Than 60 Rescues

Kentucky governor Andy Beshear has shared that the state of Kentucky will formally seek federal aid as widespread flash floods continue across the state.

Kentucky Floods Latest Update: Last Saturday, a state of emergency was declared in Kentucky. Now, the state’s governor Andy Beshear has shared that Kentucky will appeal for federal aid, as heavy floods continue.   

Kentucky Floods Latest Update: Andy Beshear’s Update 

Kentucky governor Andy Beshear has shared that the state of Kentucky will formally seek federal aid. He also said that search and rescue operations are still active. So far, the floods in Kentucky have caused 4 deaths, although there is a likelihood that figure will increase.

“This flooding has devastated so many communities across our state and taken the lives of four children of God, gone too soon. While we are still in the search and rescue phase, we are also working quickly to survey damage to submit a request for federal assistance”, Beshear said.      

Kentucky Floods Latest Update: Floods Lead to Over 60 Rescues 

Torrential storms recently caused massive flash flooding in Kentucky. The subsequent floods caused 4 casualties and the displacement of many. There were reports of infrastructural collapse in many counties of the state. 

Why Did Kentucky Declare Emergency? 

Last Saturday, Kentucky declared a state of emergency in an alarming development. But what was the reason? According to Governor Andy Beshear, it was due to the widespread flash floods across the state. 

“This is a serious flooding event, where teams have already had to conduct multiple water rescues from vehicles and homes across the commonwealth. As more heavy rain continues through late tonight, we need folks to remain alert and to avoid driving, especially after dark when there is limited visibility. We’ve sadly already received reports of fatalities that we are working to confirm, and we need everyone to stay alert and do what’s needed to keep each other safe”, Beshear shared at the time.  

Kentucky Floods Latest Update: Affected Areas 

Some of the counties where emergency has been declared include  Bullitt, Clinton, Cumberland, Garrard, Grayson, Jackson, Jessamine, Madison, Meade, Mercer, Metcalf, Spencer and Wayne counties. And the cities of Albany, Brandenburg, Burkesville, McKee and Murdaugh have also been adversely hit.
