Why Labor Day Still Matters

While many Americans today consider Labor Day as a day of sales, barbecue parties and the last major vacation of summer, Labor Day started out as a recognition of the American workers.

As defined by the U.S. Department of Labor, Labor Day is celebrated every year to recognize the contributions of American workers towards society and economy. The origins of Labor Day can be traced back to the labor movement of the 1880s while  long before Congress established the holiday nationally in 1894.

The celebration in 2026 will have that traditional feature merged with the travel weekend and another economic situation because of increased prices for the fuel. The main day when it will be necessary to shop, travel or take care of bank, market and other government-related business is Monday, September 7, 2026. All important commercial activities will remain available and however, it is better to finish all bank, stock market and other government business before the celebration.
