President Donald Trump weighed in on the closely watched Lindsay Clancy case Friday, suggesting that the Massachusetts mother could face a second trial following the mistrial.
His comments came just minutes after Massachusetts Superior Court Judge William F. Sullivan ended the proceedings when jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict.
“I assume there’s going to be another trial. It’s a terrible situation,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. He also described Clancy’s alleged actions as “a horrible, horrible thing” and said there would ultimately be consequences, whether through a mental institution or prison.
The jury deliberated for all or part of seven days but was unable to reach a unanimous decision. Clancy, 36, faced three first-degree murder charges in connection with the deaths of her children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. She had pleaded an insanity defence, arguing that she was experiencing postpartum psychosis when the children died in January 2023.
