M23 Traffic Update Today: The main sections of the M23 motorway are currently moving well with no major closures reported today, following the clearance of a major lorry crash that heavily congested the Gatwick Airport spur road. Here’s everything you need to know about the M23 traffic update today, road closures, junction disruptions, helpline numbers, diversions, and more.

M23 Traffic Update Today: Current M23 Conditions & Hotspots

Traffic flows smoothly between Hooley (Junction 8 / M25) and Crawley (Junction 11) in both directions. The heavy residual gridlock surrounding the Gatwick Airport (J9) terminal routes from the weekend has largely eased, though routine airport traffic remains steady.

However, minor slow-moving traffic is expected at Junction 8 Interchanger during peak commuting hours due to merging lanes with the M25.

M23 Traffic Update Today: Major Disruptions

No major disruptions or full closures are active on the M23 mainline today. Live monitoring services like UK Traffic Updates confirm that both northbound and southbound carriageways are currently running smoothly.

Recent notable incidents causing historical or residual delays have all been fully resolved.

Gatwick Spur Crash: A weekend collision on the A23 Airport Way/M23 Gatwick Spur between the North and South terminals triggered severe congestion, but National Highways South East confirmed the road has fully reopened.

M23 Traffic Update Today: High-Traffic Hotspots to Watch Today

While the motorway is clear of emergency incidents, minor routine slow-downs can happen at known bottlenecks:

  • Junction 8 (M25 Interchange): Merging traffic moving off the M25 Motorway Network frequently bottlenecks during peak commuter hours.

  • Junction 11 (A264 Roundabout): The tight turn onto the Crawley exit can cause abrupt braking and brief queues.

M23 Traffic Update Today: Affected Routes

All surrounding routes and standard diversion tracks are completely clear following the full reopening of the M23. Since the motorway has returned to regular traffic flow, neighboring roads are no longer absorbing overflow traffic.

M23 Traffic Update Today: Junction Disruptions

All junctions along the M23 mainline are currently open and clear of emergency disruptions, with only minor lane restrictions in place for routine roadworks. Both the severe fatal collision at Junction 9 from earlier last week and the weekend Gatwick Spur collision have been completely cleared.

M23 Traffic Update Today: Alternative Routes

  • Bypassing Junctions 7 to 9 (M25 to Gatwick Airport)

  • Bypassing Junctions 9 to 11 (Gatwick to Crawley/Brighton)

M23 Traffic Update Today: Helpline Numbers

For immediate road assistance, live information, or to report an active incident on the M23, you can use the official UK highway helpline numbers.

  • Emergency Situations: Dial 999

  • National Highways Customer Contact Centre: Dial 0300 123 5000 for non-emergency incident reporting, active road hazard updates, or breakdown queries.

  • Non-Emergency Police Support: Dial 101 to report minor collisions or traffic disruptions.

The M23 motorway is fully open, running smoothly, and free of major disruptions today. Both the residual congestion from the weekend Gatwick Spur accident and the severe delays from last week’s fatal incident at Junction 9 have been entirely cleared.
