M6 Traffic Latest Update: Motorists on the M6 in Cheshire experienced major travel disruption after roadworks overran on the southbound carriageway, leading to lane restrictions and heavy congestion. The affected section between Junction 21A and Junction 21 saw traffic delays of more than 50 minutes, with around six miles of queues reported.

Authorities later reopened all lanes, allowing traffic to move normally again, but drivers continued to face delays as congestion slowly cleared. A separate disruption on the northbound carriageway also affected traffic flow before lanes were reopened.

M6 Traffic Latest Update: All Lanes Reopened on M6 Southbound After Roadworks Delay

All lanes on the M6 southbound in Cheshire have been reopened after roadworks caused temporary restrictions between Junction 21A and Junction 21.

The planned works continued beyond the expected timeframe, resulting in delays for motorists travelling through the area. Traffic monitoring service Inrix earlier reported that the motorway was “partially blocked” due to the ongoing roadworks.

After the restrictions were removed, traffic gradually started moving again, although congestion remained on the route.

M6 Traffic Latest Update: Drivers Still Face Delays as Congestion Clears

Although the motorway has reopened, drivers are still experiencing slower journeys due to the backlog of traffic built up during the disruption. Reports showed delays of more than 50 minutes, with approximately six miles of congestion affecting the southbound carriageway.

Traffic conditions are expected to improve as vehicles clear the affected section, but motorists have been advised to allow extra travel time while normal flow returns.

M6 Traffic Latest Update: Traffic Released After Northbound Disruption

Traffic has also been released on the M6 northbound following a separate incident that disrupted the motorway.

All lanes were reopened after the issue was resolved, allowing vehicles to continue their journeys. However, motorists were warned that delays could continue while traffic recovered from the earlier restrictions.

The M6 frequently experiences congestion due to its high traffic volume, with incidents, breakdowns and roadworks often causing significant delays.

M6 Traffic Latest Update: What Caused Delays & Congestion on M6 Today?

The main cause of today’s delays was roadworks that overran on the M6 southbound between Junction 21A and Junction 21 in Cheshire.

The extended works forced authorities to restrict traffic movement, creating queues during the disruption period. As vehicles slowed down and lanes became limited, congestion quickly spread along the motorway.

Traffic services monitored the situation and provided updates as crews worked to reopen the affected lanes.

M6 Traffic Latest Update: Which Lanes Were Affected?

The southbound stretch between Junction 21A and Junction 21 was the main affected area during the disruption.

The motorway was temporarily reported as “partially blocked” while roadworks continued. Restrictions in this section caused significant delays for motorists heading south through Cheshire.

Once the works were completed, all lanes reopened, and traffic movement resumed.

M6 Traffic Latest Update: Are Diversion Routes Still in Place?

No major diversion routes remain in place after the reopening of all lanes on the M6 southbound. Drivers can now use the motorway normally, although some delays may continue due to remaining congestion.

Motorists travelling through the area are advised to check live traffic updates before setting out, especially during peak travel hours.

M6 Traffic Latest Update: What Should Travellers Know?

Drivers planning journeys on the M6 through Cheshire should remain aware of possible delays while traffic conditions return to normal. The motorway has reopened fully, but congestion caused by earlier restrictions may take time to clear completely.

Travellers are advised to plan additional time for their journeys and follow updates from official traffic monitoring services for the latest information.
