US News: Marco Rubio recently traded his suits for a Nicolas Maduro-inspired tracksuit while on his way to Beijing. Now, the US Secretary of State has set social media ablaze with his quirky fashion statement.
The Tracksuit Incident: What Marco Rubio Wore
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio wore a grey tracksuit by Nike called ‘Nike Tech’. Steven Cheung, the White House’s communications director, posted an image of Rubio’s outfit.
“Secretary Rubio rocking the Nike Tech ‘Venezuela’ on Air Force One!”, Cheung said in a post on microblogging platform X. Rubio paired the grey tracksuit with grey running shoes. He wore it aboard Air Force One while he and President Trump were en route to China.
The Maduro Connection
On first glance, the ‘Nike Tech’ looks like a regular tracksuit. But it’s eerily similar to what Nicolas Maduro wore at the time of his capture. Maduro, who is a controversial figure in Latin America, was captured by the US forces in Caracas and subsequently brought to New York on charges of narcoterrorism and fraudulent elections.
Social Media Reaction
Marco Rubio’s Maduro inspired tracksuit has now gone viral on social media, with many posting memes. “LMFAO! Sec. Marco Rubio was just spotted wearing the Nicolas Maduro “Nike Tech” aboard Air Force One, en route to China with President Trump. Just like Maduro wore when 47 captured him. We love Marco”, Eric Daugherty, posted on X.
The White House also joined in by posting the viral images on X, with the caption “Full circle moment”. An X user praised the look, saying, “Rubio has a great sense of humour. Seems like a fun guy to hang out with,” while another user said, “This is crazy trolling at this point,” wrote a user, while another said, “But with adidas shoes? Come on man”. “Marco is looking fit AF. American men, take note. Get your sh** together. We need you.”
How Did Marco Rubio Get Permission for the China Trip?
It’s important to keep in mind that Rubio, who’s the first ever Latino to hold the post of US Secretary of State, has been sanctioned by China. The sanctions, which were imposed during Rubio’s tenure as Florida senator, also included an entry ban.
Now, Chinese authorities have slightly altered the lu sound in his surname, enabling him to visit the country with President Trump.
US – Venezuela Relations
Despite this light hearted moment, US-Venezuela relations are currently going through a turbulent phase. President Trump recently shared an image, that featured Venezuela as the 51st American state. And Delcy Rodriguez, the interim president of Venezuela, criticised him for the post.
