Miss North Carolina USA has been stripped of her crown just weeks after winning the title, with organisers citing conduct they said violated the organisation’s standards on racism, homophobia and transphobia.
Miss USA Chairman Thom Brodeur did not specify what conduct prompted the decision to remove Brittany Boltinhouse from the role, but said in a statement that the organisation “does not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia nor language that strips any person of their dignity,” adding that the conduct in question had occurred “over an extended period of time,” according to Fox News.

State pageant organiser A Blaize Productions confirmed the removal separately, saying it followed a “thorough review of recently surfaced information,” though the organisation likewise declined to detail the specific allegations. “We ask our pageant family, supporters, and the public to extend kindness and respect to both Brittany and Myla during this transition,” the organisation said in its statement, adding that “moments like these are never easy for anyone involved.”

Myla Hadley, the competition’s first runner-up, has been elevated to take Boltinhouse’s place at the national pageant. Brodeur said Hadley would step into the role “with our full confidence and our support.” Hadley addressed the abrupt transition in a social media post, acknowledging the significance of the position she has now inherited. “While this may seem like a two-week turnaround given the circumstances, I’ve been preparing to represent at Miss USA since I first competed with this organisation,” Hadley wrote, adding, “I am ready to represent North Carolina.”
