Nancy Guthrie Case Latest News Today: The probe regarding the disappearance of the 84 year old Nancy Guthrie is being followed by all of America after the federal court has ordered that Derrick Anthony Callella, who had confessed to sending forged ransom notes to the Guthrie family, be sent to a rehab center before sentencing while Savannah Guthrie of NBC’s Today show has stayed away from the show for a few days, raising speculations about her among viewers.

Callella was charged with two federal counts of harassment with a telecommunications device after being identified as having sent false ransom notes to Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni, who were the daughter and son-in-law of Nancy Guthrie. Callella will be sentenced on September 10. The judge ordered that he stay within an inpatient facility or halfway house until his sentencing date. If he fails to do so, then immediate arrest would be made by the U.S. Marshals Service. The penalty for each federal count is two years imprisonment, up to $250,000 fine and one year supervised release.

Nancy Guthrie was missing from her Tucson, Arizona, home on January 31 and the case is still being treated by law enforcement as a possible kidnapping for ransom. Earlier in the year, the FBI had released video footage depicting a man with a gun interfering with security cameras prior to her abduction. Law enforcement has stated that Callella has nothing to do with the ransom notes that were sent to various media outlets separately. It is not yet known if these ransom notes are genuine or not.  The Guthrie family continues to offer a reward of up to $1 million for credible information leading to Nancy’s safe recovery.

The absence of Savannah Guthrie on the Today show by NBC created worry among fans. It was reported that she is just taking a little break during the summer season and will be back next week and she is not absent because of any connection with the case being investigated against her mother. The experienced anchor woman had before taken time off due to other professional engagements, one of which is the production of a new game show by NBC.

This is not the first time Guthrie has been away from Studio 1A. In June, she missed an episode because she was “starting production meetings on the Wordle game show coming to NBC later this year,” Craig Melvin explained at the time, according to USA Today.
