Nancy Guthrie Case Latest News: Has FBI Discredited Authenticity of Ransom Notes?
The FBI has reportedly declared all ransom notes in the Nancy Guthrie case as ‘fake’. “None of the ransom notes are believed to be genuine”, an FBI official told news agency Reuters on the condition of anonymity. However, the FBI official did not disclose any other details.
So far, three ransom notes have been sent to the authorities, with all of them having the same IP address. The most recent ransom note made headlines for claiming to have video footage of Nancy with ‘the main guy’ from allegedly her last day. It also made claims about a phone in ‘a secure location’ with that footage and other critical information.
“I have a phone stashed in a secure location guaranteeing both the information it stores and the safety of the phone. What it contains is my definition of delivering them on a silver platter, a short video of the main guy with Nancy the day that was probably her last, pictures of both involved, names and addresses and age”, the note mentioned.
Nancy Guthrie Case Latest News: Search & Rescue Group Offers Help to Pima County Sheriff Department
An American search & rescue group, recently submitted a detailed plan to the Pima County Sheriff Department about how it could help with the investigation, but its offer was declined.
“We do know that there was sort of like a blanket declination from the sheriff’s office to accept any outside help”, Brian Trascher, the vice president of the United States Cajun Navy said.
Trascher then defended his group’s choice to extend help and stated that “Again, just to be a force multiplier, extra set of eyes, ears, hands and feet at this point just to try to bring some closure to the Guthrie family”.
But he also acknowledged that the search & rescue group’s efforts would have been helpful during the initial stages of the investigation, currently in its fifth month. This is not the first time the Pima County Sheriff Department has refused external help.

Doorbell video footage from her home, which showed a masked man with a black backpack tampering with her claim. Authorities are actively searching for this man, who is either 5’9″ or 5’10” tall and has a medium build.
Nancy Guthrie Case: Who are the Suspects?
There are no official suspects in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, as per the latest developments. While many suspected that local fugitive Coral Michelle Smith could be a suspect, her involvement was formally ruled out.
The cops are also looking for an unidentified masked man, called the ‘porch guy’ who was caught tampering with Nancy Guthrie’s doorbell camera. He was carrying a backpack and allegedly tried to obscure the doorbell camera with his gloved hand and some flowers from Nancy’s garden.
Nancy Guthrie Investigation Update: Former FBI Agent’s Stance on ‘Mea Culpa’ Note
Former FBI agent Jeniffer Coffindaffer recently shared a new theory behind the third ransom note that was sent to TMZ (TMZ then forwarded the note to the FBI). According to her, the kidnappers sent the ‘mea culpa’ note to reduce their likelihood of facing a death sentence (kidnapping can lead to a death sentence in Arizona).
“They have a murder on their hands as opposed to a kidnapping, and that is punishable by the death penalty in Arizona, and they well know this”, Coffindaffer explained in a recent interview.
She then added that “This is some sort of pretext to kind of say, ‘Listen, we didn’t mean for this to happen.’…You know, mea culpa, if you will, for the event that they are caught”. Coffindaffer also agreed with others about Nancy Guthrie’s alleged death being unintentional.
