Former FBI agent Steve Moore recently gave an interview to a local publication. He suggested that the blood uncovered on the porch of Nancy Guthrie’s home in Catalina Hills, Tucson is indicative of a tragic end.
“With blood on the porch of Nancy’s house. I think you have to put into play the very strong possibility that Nancy didn’t survive long enough for them to even get a ransom note”, Moore said. He also spoke of the 3 ransom notes currently under an FBI probe.
Moore claimed that the federal agency is still treating Nancy’s case like one of kidnapping, irrespective of the ransom notes or not. “Regardless of whether or not ransom notes from the actual takers of Nancy ever existed, they still believe it is a kidnapping”, he explained. FBI Phoenix previously shared that some ransom notes have been deemed as ‘extortion attempts’, while others may be legitimate.

There are no official suspects in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, as per the latest developments. While many suspected that local fugitive Coral Michelle Smith could be a suspect, her involvement was formally ruled out.

Nancy Guthrie Case Investigation Update: Federal Court Mandates Rehab for Ransom Note Hoax Culprit
Derrick Callella, the culprit in the ransom note previously admitted to harassing Nancy’s other daughter Annie Guthrie and son in law Tommaso Cioni.
Now, a federal court in Arizona has ordered inpatient treatement for Callella. The court clearly stated that he must stay at either an inpatient substance use facility or halfway house before his sentencing. Callella, who was charged with 2 counts of harassment, will be sentenced on September 10, 2026 by US District Judge John C Hinderaker.
