Nancy Guthrie Case Latest News: Entertainment outlet TMZ was recently dragged into the ongoing investigation for journalist Savannah Guthrie’s missing mother Nancy Guthrie. Now the outlet’s founder Harvey Levin has raised a new theory. Meanwhile a veteran criminologist expressed doubts over the three ransom notes.

Nancy Guthrie Case Latest News: Harvey Levin’s Bold New Theory

During late June, a bombshell ransom note was sent to entertainment outlet TMZ via email. The note claimed to possess video footage of Nancy with ‘the main guy’ and shared that two people were involved in her abduction. TMZ promptly forwarded the note to the FBI, that’s jointly investigating the case with the Pima County Sheriff Department.

Now, Harvey Levin has raised a bold new possibility that was not on people’s minds previously. According to what an FBI insider told Levi, someone from the press might have planted evidence, during the initial stages of the probe.

“Early on in the investigation, there were certain items that were found that got a lot of news attention.”Levin then added that “I’m not going to say what it is because they haven’t done anything with this, but there was one particular item. I talked to somebody in the FBI who said, ‘We believe that somebody in the media may have planted that item to get attention.’”. If convicted, the press person would most likely get prosecuted.

Who is Harvey Levin?

Harvey Levin is an American TV producer, journalist and lawyer. His qualifications include a BA in political science from the University of California followed by a J.D. from the University of Chicago. He was actively practicing as  an attorney and also did legal reporting and consulting. In 2005, he established TMZ, which is primarily an entertainment outlet. But in this case, the alleged culprits behind Nancy Guthrie’s abduction have communicated with it through ransom notes.

Nancy Guthrie Case Latest News: Criminologist’s Stance on Ransom Notes

Criminologist Casey Jordan recently gave an interview where she discussed the ongoing missing persons case of Nancy Guthrie. She claimed that none of the 3 ransom notes in this case are authentic, due to no evidence to back things up.

“The No. 1 reason, and this is probably 90% of it, is that nothing, no communication is offered, any proof of life, proof of death, evidence of anything”, she explained. FBI Phoenix shared that some of the notes were deemed to be fake, while others are being investigated to check their legitimacy.

Nancy Guthrie Case: Who are the Suspects?

There are no official suspects in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, as per the latest developments. While many suspected that local fugitive Coral Michelle Smith could be a suspect, her involvement was formally ruled out.

Nancy Guthrie Case Investigation Update: Californian Suspect’s Admission

Derrick Callella, a 42 year old man hailing from Southern California pleaded guilty in a Tucson court for creating & sending fake ransom notes to the Guthrie family.

And during questioning, Callella admitted to harassing Nancy’s older daughter Annie Guthrie and her son in law Tommaso Cioni. Some people raised the possibility of the couple being involved in Nancy’s disappearance. But Chris Nanos from the Pima County Sheriff Department ruled that out

“To be clear… the Guthrie family, to include all siblings and spouses, has been cleared as possible suspects”, Nanos said. He then added that “The family has been nothing but cooperative and gracious and are victims in this case. To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, it is cruel. The Guthrie family are victims, plain and simple.”, he stated boldly.

Meanwhile FBI Phoenix has said that the case ‘continues to be investigated as a kidnapping for ransom’. The agency is looking into how cryptocurrency may have played a role.
