CNN law enforcement contributor Steve Moore noted that the family not being suspects is a very strong indicator of progress. Moore, a retired supervisory special agent with the FBI, added, “Investigators have to have enough information to exclude them, which means they are gaining more and more information on the case itself.”

In a statement Monday, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department emphasized that all family members are not under suspicion. Sheriff Nanos said, “The family has been nothing but cooperative and gracious and are victims in this case,” sharing the statement on X.

Nancy Guthrie Kidnapping Case: Suspect’s Backpack Traced by Investigators

Authorities are collaborating with Walmart to trace a backpack seen on the suspect in video footage from the night Nancy Guthrie disappeared. Sheriff Nanos confirmed that the backpack, identified by the FBI as a 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack, is sold exclusively at Walmart. Other clothing items worn by the suspect have not yet been identified. A Walmart spokesperson declined to comment on the matter.
