Old Farmer’s Almanac Winter Forecast: Florida is gearing up for a winter that may have a different weather pattern than residents expect, based on the latest seasonal outlooks. The Farmers’ Almanac 2026–27 forecast points to an active and changeable winter across the southern United States, while the Old Farmer’s Almanac is also forecasting a warmer-than-usual winter for Florida. However, the two outlooks differ on some precipitation details, making the state’s winter forecast more complicated than simply calling it a “warm winter.”

Old Farmer’s Almanac Winter Forecast: Will Florida Have a Warmer Winter This Year?

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, Florida is expected to have a warmer winter than usual during the 2026–27 season. The forecast identifies early and mid-December and early January as periods when Florida could experience its coldest temperatures, meaning warmer seasonal conditions would not rule out short-lived cold spells. The Farmers’ Almanac also places Florida in a broader southern pattern influenced by a strengthening El Niño, with an active storm track extending through the Gulf Coast and Southeast.

Could Florida Still See Cold Snaps This Winter?

Yes. A warmer seasonal outlook does not mean Florida will remain warm throughout the entire winter. The Farmers’ Almanac says the southern tier could experience occasional surges of colder air as storm systems move through the region. Its broader 2026–27 outlook describes a winter with frequent storm systems and periods when colder air could interact with moisture. Florida can therefore still experience brief cold fronts even if the overall seasonal temperature averages end up above normal.

What Is the Winter Rainfall Forecast for Florida?

Rainfall is one area where the regional outlook becomes more nuanced. The Old Farmer’s Almanac forecasts above-normal rainfall in northern Florida and below-normal rainfall in southern Florida. Meanwhile, the Farmers’ Almanac’s broader outlook describes an active storm track across the Gulf Coast and Southeast, with frequent storm systems possible. This means rainfall could vary considerably across the state rather than following one uniform statewide pattern.

Old Farmer’s Almanac Winter Forecast: When Could Florida See Its Coldest Winter Weather?

Florida’s coldest temperatures this coming winter will be in early and mid-December and early January, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. But seasonal forecasts can’t tell you exactly when a given cold front will arrive, or how low temperatures will go in a given city. Florida’s actual winter weather will depend on the evolution of large-scale atmospheric patterns, including the developing El Niño, as well as individual storm systems and cold-air outbreaks.
