The government in Pakistan has reduced the price of petrol by Rs2.20 per litre and high-speed diesel by Rs1.50 per litre, with the revised rates taking effect from Saturday, 8 August, until Monday, 10 August 2026.

According to a notification issued by the country’s Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products on Friday under the government’s ongoing petroleum pricing mechanism.

The price of petrol, officially known as Motor Spirit, was reduced from Rs329.82 to Rs327.62 per litre. High-speed diesel, widely used in transport and agricultural machinery, fell from Rs382.36 to Rs380.86 per litre, with both new rates set to remain in effect until Monday, in line with the government’s ongoing practice of adjusting fuel prices based on international oil markets and other cost factors.

Pakistan Petrol Price Cut: Why Are Fuel Prices Being Adjusted So Frequently?

Pakistan’s Petroleum Division reviews and updates fuel prices on a rolling basis to reflect movements in the international oil market, currency fluctuations and other cost factors affecting the domestic supply chain. This latest revision follows a similar reduction announced in the previous review, when the government decreased the price of petrol by Rs3.19 per litre while also cutting the HSD price by Rs1.50 per litre, marking the second consecutive review in which both fuels have been trimmed.

Pakistan Petrol Price Cut: What Does This Mean Against The Backdrop Of Global Oil Markets?

The reduction comes even as global oil prices have shown signs of firming, with crude trading at $77.91 per barrel amid ongoing uncertainty tied to the Iran-US conflict and related peace negotiations, according to separate market data from Business Recorder. Despite that upward pressure internationally, the government’s latest adjustment has still delivered modest relief to consumers at the pump for the current pricing period.

With Pakistan’s fuel pricing mechanism reviewed on a rolling basis, further adjustments to both petrol and diesel rates are expected once the current pricing window closes on Monday, when the Petroleum Division will next reassess rates in line with prevailing international and domestic cost factors.
