• Blowing Dust: A massive dust wall is moving northwest into the Valley. This follows two historic Category 5 dust storms that blanketed the region earlier in the week.

The active Flash Flood Warning for the immediate Phoenix Valley has expired, but lingering flood watches and severe heat risks remain the main focus for today. 

The National Weather Service (NWS) lifted the local flash flood warnings early this morning after intense monsoon storms dumped over 1 to 1.5 inches of rain, causing rapid runoff in regional washes like Vekol Wash.

• Pull Aside, Stay Alive: If you encounter a wall of dust, pull completely off the paved roadway.

• Lights Off: Turn off your vehicle’s headlights and taillights so trailing drivers do not mistakenly follow you off the road.

• Foot Off: Take your foot off the brake pedal completely once safely parked.

• Avoid Flooding: Never attempt to drive through flooded roads or moving washes. Turn around, don’t drown.

If You Are Indoors:

• Seek Shelter: Stay inside a sturdy building and keep away from windows to avoid injury from flying debris or shattered glass.

• Protect Health: Widespread blowing dust has triggered a High Pollution Advisory. Keep doors and windows tightly shut, run your air conditioning on recirculate, and avoid heavy outdoor exertion—especially if you suffer from asthma or COPD.
