This morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off India’s inaugural hydrogen powered train in Jind, Haryana. Now, India has become the world’s sixth country to have such a train after Germany, China, Japan, the US and France.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched India’s first ever hydrogen powered train in Jind, Haryana this morning. While speaking at the launch, he said “Whenever Indian Railways is spoken of, the Bombay to Thane expressway is spoken of. Now whenever hydrogen trains are spoken of, Jind will be remembered”, he said at the grand inauguration event.
The groundbreaking, new train is a part of the central government’s initiative to explore greener and more sustainable mobility options. Powered by a 3,200-horsepower propulsion system, it will most likely become the longest and most powerful hydrogen passenger train in the world after operations resume.

Hydrogen Train: Route
The newly launched hydrogen fueled train will run from Jind to Sonipat, both in Haryana. The route features 12 stations and runs for a distance of 89 kilometres. Jind is known for having India’s largest dedicated hydrogen refueling station.

The newly launched hydrogen fueled train is one of India’s most affordable trains. According to railway officials, the fares start at Rs 5, while the maximum ticket price is Rs 25. However, the exact fare will depend on the amount of distance travelled.
Hydrogen Train: Timings
According to the official schedule, the hydrogen powered train will depart from Jind at 7:40 AM and arrive in Sonipat by 9:40 AM. The train will likely rain twice a day for now.
Hydrogen Train: When & How to Book Tickets
The Indian Railways has made the booking process for the hydrogen powered train very seamless. Tickets can be booked on the same day through either the official UTS mobile app or the offline station ticket counter. Keep in mind that for those booking offline, the ticket counter will open 1 hour before the departure.
