Russia-Ukraine War Latest News: The Czech Republic will not participate in the €70 billion (approximately $80 billion) military assistance package for Ukraine that NATO member states agreed upon during their summit in Ankara, according to Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš. While backing each country’s right to decide its own contribution, Babiš confirmed that the Czech Republic would not join the funding package.
NATO Agrees on €70 Billion Ukraine Support Package
At the NATO summit in Ankara, alliance members pledged €70 billion in military assistance for Ukraine in 2026, with a commitment to maintain at least equivalent levels of support in 2027, according to the summit declaration.
The package is aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities as the conflict with Russia continues.
Czech Republic Declines To Join Funding Initiative
Speaking after the NATO meeting, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš confirmed that the Czech Republic would not participate in the €70 billion package.
“We appreciate that every country will decide on this itself. We will not participate in the amount,” Babiš said.
He emphasized that each NATO member is free to determine the extent of its contribution.
NATO Allows Members To Decide Individual Contributions
The NATO agreement does not require every member nation to contribute the same amount or participate in every funding initiative.
Instead, allies retain the flexibility to decide how they will support Ukraine based on national priorities, resources, and domestic policies.
Ukraine Support Remains NATO’s Key Priority
Despite the Czech Republic’s decision, NATO leaders reiterated their commitment to supporting Ukraine through military assistance, training, and long-term security cooperation.
The alliance continues to describe assistance for Kyiv as a central element of European and transatlantic security.
