Since last week, Ukrainian troops have been attacking the Kremlin’s tankers and vessels. Kyiv has justified the attacks by claiming that they were actually ‘shadow fleet tankers’. On Saturday (July 11), the Ukrainian military recently confirmed that a dozen more ships of Russian origin were recently attacked, in addition to the 35 ships targeted and set on fire last week.
Now, the Kremlin has put a temporary suspension on all shipping in the Sea of Azov. The Russian Border Guard Service (RBGS) confirmed that no commercial navigation will happen through the Kerch Strait and Don Azav canal, until tensions simmer. The international waters are close to the Crimean Peninsula, where the tankers were supplying fuel.

Ukraine is about to go through a massive political reshuffle. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko abruptly announced her resignation and expressed gratitude for getting a chance to lead Ukraine during one of “the most difficult periods in Ukraine’s modern history”.
She then added that “I am grateful to the President for his trust and for his high assessment of our team’s work. Together, we visited every part of our remarkable country, with particular attention to frontline regions. We made extremely difficult decisions under intense pressure, endured the hardest winter, and never allowed the enemy to stop the heartbeat of our state – its economy”. Svyrydenko who came to power last year was credited with improving ties between Kyiv and Washington.
While no official successor has been declared, Zelensky reportedly met with multiple candidates including Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov, and Naftogaz CEO Serhii Koretskyi. Zelensky confirmed the reshuffle reports via an elaborate post on X (formerly Twitter).

Is Russia Relying on Japan for Help?
According to a new report, Russia has crafted a vast spy network in Japan due to the country’s weak espionage laws and sought-after technology industry. While a separate report by the Ukrainian government claimed that at least 90 per cent of Russian missiles and drones include Japanese components. Neither Tokyo nor Moscow have responded to the reports yet.

During the course of the war, Ukraine has frequently relied on its European allies for help. Today, a group of 25 European leaders will conduct a Coalition of the Willing which will also include Zelensky.
According to a French official, the focus would be on anti-ballistic-missile cooperation ranging from sourcing more U.S. Patriot interceptors and advancing the deployment of the Franco-Italian SAMP-T air defence system. The leaders will also propose a common position that could be taken to Russia, and security guarantees to support any eventual peace deal.
