In an unusual development, Russia has reportedly sent fragments associated with medieval ruler Dmitry Donskoy toward the Ukrainian frontline in an effort to boost the morale of Russian troops.

Dmitry Donskoy, who died in 1389, is remembered for his victory over the Mongol Golden Horde at the Battle of Kulikovo in 1380. He has also become an important historical figure for Russian nationalists.

The fragments were reportedly discovered during restoration work at Moscow’s Cathedral of the Archangel in the Kremlin. Russian military and religious officials have presented the discovery as a symbolic source of inspiration for troops fighting in Ukraine.

The move reflects the continued use of historical and religious symbolism in Russia’s efforts to strengthen morale among soldiers as the war enters another difficult phase.

Russia-Ukraine War Latest News: UK Pledges Further Support to Ukraine as Streeting Vows Continued Backing

The United Kingdom has reaffirmed its support for Ukraine, with Defence Secretary Wes Streeting saying that Britain will remain firmly behind Kyiv despite the ongoing conflict.

Streeting made the comments while co-chairing a virtual meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, which brings together around 50 countries providing military assistance to Ukraine.

The UK has pledged £100 million to strengthen Ukraine’s air-defence capabilities ahead of the winter months. Streeting, who recently travelled to Ukraine, spoke about witnessing the impact of the war and praised the resilience of the Ukrainian people.

He said continued international support would be crucial as Ukraine prepares for another difficult winter. Strengthening also stressed the importance of diplomatic efforts, saying the war would ultimately need to end through negotiations, while making clear that Britain’s military and political support for Kyiv would continue.

Russia-Ukraine War Latest News: Russia Says It Will Continue Attacking Ukrainian Ships Carrying Ammunition

The Kremlin has said Russian forces will continue targeting ships that it believes are transporting ammunition for Ukraine’s military.

The statement came after questions were raised about whether Russia could agree to a temporary pause in attacks on vessels operating in the Black Sea.

Russia and Ukraine have both intensified attacks in the region in recent weeks, creating additional risks for commercial shipping.

The escalation has also contributed to volatility in global grain prices because of the Black Sea’s importance to agricultural exports.

Moscow has previously rejected proposals for a limited ceasefire covering Black Sea shipping, describing such an arrangement as inadequate.
