Russia Ukraine War Latest News: Kremlin Strikes Kyiv Again
According to multiple reports, the Russian military struck Kyiv once again killing 1 and injuring 13. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the attack, sharing that a series of powerful explosions were heard in the city.
The city’s mayor Vitali Klitschko has said that residential buildings, warehouses, a supermarket and a dormitory were among the structures damaged, with 3 people in serious condition currently. Emergency services have now been deployed and are currently probing the extent of the damage. Since Ukraine is currently facing an arms shortage, it could not counter the attack.
Russia Ukraine War Latest News: Zelensky Issues Statement on Warehouse Attacks in Russia
Ukraine launched devastating twin attacks on two warehouses of Russian retail giant Wildberries. One of them was on a newly built manufacturing and logistics complex in the city of Kotovsk. That attack killed 8 and caused injuries to 25 others.
And that’s not all, another facility of the retail giant got attacked in Eloktrostal, a city in the Moscow metropolitan region. The company’s CEO and founder Tatyna Kim has slammed the attacks and described the ‘terrible night’ for both Russia and her company. She also offered her condolences to the victims’ families.
While Regional governor Yevgeny Pervyshov confirmed the attack and shared that air defense systems shot down 28 additional drones that were headed in the Kotovsk complex’s direction.
Now, Zelensky has issued a statement on the twin attacks and said that they happened as the Kremlin was allegedly utilising the warehouses to bypass international sanctions and supplying critical drone production components, war materiel, and navigation hardware to front-line troops. The warehouses were located 500 and approximately 700 kilometers from the front line respectively.
Russia, Ukraine Swap Bodies of Slain Soldiers
Recently, Russia and Ukraine swapped the bodies of over 531 bodies. The Kremlin received the remains of 31 soldiers, while Ukraine received 501 bodies of their soldiers. The exchange happened near the Belarus border.
Russia Ukraine War Latest News: Kyiv’s Political Reshuffle on Pause?
Earlier this month, Zelensky announced that he is initiating a major political overhaul in the country, starting with the exit of former Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. Other people who got axed included former defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov and Tymur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv’s military administration.
Subsequently, rare wartime protests erupted across Ukraine over the sacking of Mykhailo Fedorov by Zelensky. Initially most protesters called for Fedorov’s reinstatement but now, many of them are demanding the termination of Oleksandr Syrski, the country’s commander in chief.
Some reports have suggested that a potential rift between Fedorov and Syrski was the trigger that caused the former’s sacking. Chants of ‘Syrskyi away’ and ‘Bring Fedorov back’ could be heard outside the presidential office in Kyiv.
Zelensky has not publicly reacted to the protests yet and instead installed some new figures like former Naftogaz CEO Serhii Koretskyi for Prime Minister, Yevhen Khmara as acting defense minister and Andrii Sybiha as acting foreign minister. Currently, the Verkhovna Rada (parliament) is on a summer break, which means that the reshuffle is on a break, but many believe that Zelensky might take some measures to dispel the wartime protests.
Russia Ukraine War Latest News: CPC’s Statement on Oil Leadings
Tensions have lingered in the Black Sea, over which both Russia and Ukraine have jurisdiction. Now, the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) has shared that yesterday, two oil tankers were attacked at the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) terminal off Russia’s Black Sea coast,
“There were no injuries or fatalities amongst CPC staff or contractors. There was no oil spill,”, it said. The CPC added that oil leadings are currently suspended but didn’t hold any party responsible for the attack.
