Today, Ukrainian drones heavily attacked the city of Tula in Russia’s Tula oblast. The attack caused three casualties, including that of a one year child and also injured three. Report suggest that the Azot chemical plant in Novomoskovsk was the main target of the Ukrainian drones.
Russia retaliated by targeting the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra monastery, one of the spiritual and cultural landmarks of Ukraine’s capital Kyiv. The monastery attack led to four deaths and 23 people getting injured. It also sparked a fire in the monastery, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, condemned the monastery attack, via an X post stating “A brutal assault on our people and our heritage. This is the true face of Russia’s Orthodox values”.

This is not the first time Tula has been attacked. In fact, the Ukrainian military has targeted the city before in multiple attacks. So why Tula? According to the country’s president Volodymyr Zelensky, this is a part of Ukraine’s ‘long range sanctions’ strategy against Russia, which includes targeting fuel reserves, logistics hubs and industrial plants.

Yes, Ukraine continues to target the Crimean peninsula. This morning, it attacked both bridges that connect Crimea to Russia’s mainland – the R-280 highway and the Kerch Bridge.
Over the last few days, multiple parts of Crimea, including the historic museum in Sevastopol, its capital city of Simferopol, Cape Tarkhankut and the Feodosia Oil Terminal have been attacked.
The peninsula, which has been under Russian administration since 2014, was previously a part of Ukraine’s territory and enjoys a strategic location on the Black Sea.
Russian Authorities Response
Dmitry Milayev, the regional governor of Tula oblast, confirmed the attack on Telegram. He shared that emergency services have been deployed to handle the fire and local authorities are still trying to inspect the extent of the damage.

Yesterday, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin spoke to US President Donald Trump on the occasion of his 80th birthday. Sources suggest that they had a frank and friendly chat, which discussed the conflicts with Iran and Ukraine respectively.
And Putin’s close aide Yuriv said that Trump offered to help end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Trump also said that American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, would soon embark on an official trip to Russia to discuss the same.
“It has been agreed that US presidential special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who are currently closely involved in Iranian affairs, will return to Russia soon”, Ushakov said while speaking to reporters in Moscow.
