The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, declared that he is willing to conduct negotiations with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, provided that both of them will be invited to the 2026 G20 Summit in Miami. He mentioned this when interviewed by Deutsche Welle, German public broadcaster. As it can be seen, he wants to attend the summit, which will be held in December, provided that Putin will attend it as well.
“Yes, of course. We must come. We must meet, talk and decide,” he said. 2026 G20 Leaders’ Summit will take place in Miami, Florida, on December 14 and 15. However, the attendance of Putin is still unconfirmed. Yuri Ushakov, the representative of the Presidential Administration of Russia, declared on Saturday that this matter has not been discussed yet.

The proposed talks between the two would have been important in the sense that the two leaders have not met face-to-face since Russia invaded Ukraine back in February 2022. The current development comes against the backdrop of ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war. The American representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with both Putin and Zelenskyy, but no breakthrough was reached. In his opinion, Zelenskyy has said that there are good things that can help bring about peace in the future.
Russia Ukraine War Latest News: Is Putin Confirmed To Attend The Miami G20 Summit?
No. Putin’s participation cannot be taken for granted as of now. There have been negotiations regarding his invitation, but it remains to be seen whether the Kremlin confirms that Putin would travel to Miami. According to recent news reports, the discussion regarding his participation was yet to take place formally with the Russians. Thus, the most appropriate statement would be that Zelenskyy is ready to meet Putin in case he is invited and both of them are present at the G20 summit.
