This morning, the Russian air defence systems claimed to counter more than 300 Ukrainian drones hovering near Moscow. Meanwhile, in Kyiv, Ukraine has drawn up an expected timeline for the making of Patriot missiles.
Russia Ukraine War Latest Update: Did Ukraine Attack Moscow?
According to Moscow’s mayor Sergei Sobyanin, close to 340 Ukrainian drones tried to target the Russian capital but were successfully neutralised by air defenses.
“Most of them were neutralised by air defence forces on the outer approaches. More than 50 enemy drones were destroyed on their way to Moscow”, he shared on Telegram. No casualties have been reported from the attack yet.
In recent months, Ukraine has ramped up attacks on Moscow as well as the industrial and oil hubs of Russia. While the Kremlin has also targeted Kyiv multiple times in the recent fortnight.
Russia Ukraine War Latest Update: Ukraine Expects to Produce Patriot Missiles by Late 2026
Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump granted a license to Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky for manufacturing Patriot missiles domestically. Since then, many have started wondering about the current status of the production of those missiles.
Now, President Zelensky has shared an update and said that his country expects to have the technical capability to make interceptor missiles for US-made Patriot air defence systems by the end of this year.
Zelensky also shared that Ukraine has a prospective launcher and missile for the developing European anti-ballistic project Freyja, and hopes its tests will be successful, while speaking to reporters in Kyiv, where a major political overhaul is underway.
Russia Ukraine War Latest Update: What’s Happening in the Sea of Azov?
Yesterday, the Russian foreign minister Sergei Azarov accused Ukraine of terrorism in the waters, over which both countries share jurisdiction. “What the Ukrainian regime is doing goes beyond even piracy. Pirates, at least, plunder and keep the spoils for themselves”, Lavrov said.
He then added that “But here, it benefits neither them nor anyone else – the goal is simply to cause damage and intimidate. It is terrorism, pure and simple”, Azarov said. The Kremlin was forced to temporarily suspend all shipping in the Sea of Azov after relentless attacks, with the Russian Border Guard Service (RBGS) publicly declaring that no commercial navigation will happen through the Kerch Strait and the Don Azav canal, until the regional situation has improved .
According to Robert Brovdi, the commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, the Ukrainian military struck 105 vessels of Russian origin from July 6 to July 13, in addition to the 35 ships that were targeted and set on fire the week before.
Reports from the Russian media have suggested that the Eurasian giant is now rerouting cargo traffic from the Sea of Azov via alternate routes. Kyiv conducted the attacks in the international waters with an intention of damaging the Kremlin’s alleged ‘shadow fleet’.
Russia Ukraine War Latest Update: Kremlin Dismisses Paris Meet of European Pro-Ukraine Alliance
Recently, a 10 member coalition convened in Paris over the Bastille Day festivities along with Zelensky. After the meeting, it released a statement which acknowledged the ‘growing threat posed by ballistic missiles’ of Russia.
However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has dismissed the ‘Coalition of the Willing’ which includes leaders from Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. In a critical statement, he said “This is a coalition of warmongers… They are driven by the profound delusion that it’s possible to inflict a strategic defeat on our country, so this is a coalition of the deluded, a coalition of those who incite the war”.
Russia Ukraine War Latest Update: Poland’s Prediction About the War
Poland is a mutual neighbour of Russia and Ukraine, although it is currently on poor terms with both. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk spoke of the war recently, and frankly stated that peace is ‘unlikely’ anytime soon.
“At this point, it seems unlikely that a ceasefire or peace agreement will be reached in the near future, given the rigid stance of Russia and Putin.Everyone expects an escalation of actions from Russia at this time, and it’s quite likely that Russia will want to prolong this war at least until the winter”, he explained. Neither Moscow nor Kyiv have reacted to Tusk’s comments yet.
