The student-athlete, participating in drills at Maumelle High School, had been wearing the headgear for approximately one hour before feeling unusual movement just after warmups concluded.

After noticing the shifting movement during a positional drill, the player immediately removed the helmet and handed it over to a defensive coach to inspect the interior. Athletic Director Kirk Horton and coaching staff members conducted a thorough examination, discovering a two-foot-long reptile coiled tightly within the protective padding.

Never.” Animal officers eventually had to flood the helmet slightly to safely coax the reptile out before relocating it to a natural habitat well away from the campus grounds.
