Scottish crime boss Steven Lyons was arrested in Bali and then subsequently deported to Amsterdam, earlier this year. Now Lyons’ lawyer has confirmed that he will challenge his extradition bid in the next hearing.Â
Steven Lyons Case Update: Crime Boss to Challenge His ExtraditionÂ
Crime Boss Steven Lyons will challenge his extradition from Netherland to Spain, according to Arne Kloosterman, his lawyer. Kloosterman confirmed that during the next hearing in Amsterdam District Court, Lyons will publicly oppose the extadition. The hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
Who is Steven Lyons? Inside His Infamous Family
Steven Lyons is a crime boss and a member of the infamous Lyons family from Scotland. The family’s organised crime gang is involved in multiple crimes which include drug trafficking, money laundering, extortion, blackmail and murder. The family has close ties to Ireland’s Kinahan Organised Crime Group (KOCG) as well as the Moroccan mafia.  Â
Why was Steven Lyons Arrested?Â
In March 2026, Lyons was arrested in Bali,upon arrival from Singapore. Shortly after, he was then taken to Netherlands from Indonesia. From Netherlands, he will most likely to be extradited to Spain for further investigation. It is worth noting that Interpol had issued a red notice for him, which the Indonesian authorities noticed and then followed.
Why was Steven Lyons Scheduled for Extradition?Â
The Spanish authorities are currently investigating Lyons as well as criminal allies for money laundering and previously claimed to bust a criminal drugs gang, operated by the Lyons family. Â
If the extradition succeeds, he will most likely be brought to Spain’s Costa del Sol in connection with Operation Armorum. It will investigate charges of drug trafficking and money laundering. Spain’s Civil Guard is organising the probe in coordination with the Turkish authorities.  Â
