Tennessee Primary Election 2026 Live Updates: The citizens of Tennessee have now come out to vote in the Tennessee Primary Election 2026, which is an important election that will decide the political future of the state before the general elections on November 3. People will be voting for their party representatives for the positions of governor, US Senator, Congress and the Tennessee General Assembly. This election is especially important because the Governor Bill Lee is leaving office after serving the maximum term limit in office in the state, hence making way for a new governor after eight years.

Voting stations have started at 7:00 a.m. local time and will close at 7:00 p.m. Central Time/8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Tennessee has voters in the Central and Eastern time zones, meaning that the closing time differs according to the time zone.

Tennessee Primary Election 2026 Live News: Turnout Continues to Be Slow at Nashville Polls

Elections authorities revealed that the process of voting was relatively slow at some poll stations in Nashville throughout the morning. By 9:45 a.m. only 37 people had voted at Christ Church Nashville in the Nippers Corner neighbourhood. It is thought that high early turnout could be a reason for such low turnout on the day of voting. 

According to the Davidson County voting figures, 50,747 people had already voted early from July 17 until August 1, which constituted about 11% of the population. The state-wide early voting during the 2024 primaries reached 14% while Cool Springs Marriott station in Williamson County had registered about 150 people by 11:30 a.m.Elections workers said that bad weather could lower turnout even more in the afternoon.
