A tornado warning has been issued for Washtenaw County, including the Ann Arbor area, after meteorological officials detected a rotation with a severe thunderstorm, which is capable of producing a tornado.

According to the National Weather Service reports, the storm is located near Chelsea at around 1:30 AM EDT, and was moving east at 55 mph, which can cause potential danger to the area.

What are the areas under a Tornado Warning?

The storm is expected to affect several areas in the region, such as Ann Arbor, Dexter, and nearby areas, before tracking further east.

However, some of the areas that are likely to be in the path of the storm and get impacted are Ypsilanti, Whitmore Lake, Dixboro, and Salem.

In addition, some of the highways with potential threats are I-94, M-14, and US-23, that falls under the tornado warning zone.

Safety Measures during the Tornado Warning

The weather service has classified the situation as hazardous and dangerous. They issued a warning that flying debris could pose a serious threat to life and property in the tornado warning areas.

Structures such as mobile homes are particularly vulnerable, while damage to roofs, windows, vehicles, and trees is likely to be inflicted if a tornado touches down.

Residents are advised to seek shelter immediately, stay away from windows, and move to the lower level of the building.

What is the Tornado threat indicated by the Radar?

The recent tornado warning was based on the radar indication of rotation, and not on the basis of a confirmed tornado on the ground.

However, meteorologists are highlighting that tornado warnings are issued only when there is a strong likelihood of formation, making immediate action critical.

With the storm moving at high speed, authorities continue to monitor the system closely while advising residents to stay alert, safe, and follow real-time tornado warning updates.
