Board of Peace: On January 22, 2026, ex-US President Donald Trump launched the Board of Peace (BoP) at the World Economic Forum in Davos. With 19 nations at its heel as founders, President Donald Trump inaugurated this initiative and tagged it “the most consequential body ever created” for promoting peace globally, focusing particularly on Gaza. The launch of BoP marked an audacious leap beyond institutional boundaries such as those of the United Nations.

What is the Board of Peace?

The Board of Peace would be an international body designed to bring stability to regions hit or threatened by conflict. It was first proposed in September 2025 as part of a 20-point plan for a Gaza ceasefire. That month, the UN Security Council ratified the board, giving it the mandate to oversee demilitarization and rebuilding in the Gaza Strip. Longer-term, its ambition would be to expand globally, promoting good governance and security in the most fragile parts of the world.

List of Founding Members & Signatories

Nineteen nations signed the founding 19 charter during the Davos ceremony including

  • Saudi Arabia
  • UAE
  • Qatar
  • Bahrain
  • Jordan
  • Morocco
  • Pakistan
  • Indonesia
  • Turkey
  • Kazakhstan
  • Uzbekistan
  • Armenia
  • Azerbaijan
  • Mongolia
  • Hungary
  • Bulgaria
  • Kosovo
  • Argentina
  • Paraguay

Trump highlighted the diversity of leaders present, praising their commitment while joking in his signature style about personal preferences.

Trump’s Vision for the Board

Trump used this initiative as a continuation of his policy of enhancing peace. He noted that he had ended eight wars during his administration without involving the UN. The former President criticized international organizations for their inefficiency. “The UN has tremendous potential but hasn’t tapped into it,” he noted. The former President compared this with his administration. He noted that this initiative would yield peace missions.

Who has been Invited?

Results suggest that 60 or so countries have been invited to join the BoP. Initial reacting countries were Hungary and Kazakhstan, which have strong relationships with Trump. There have been, however, other countries which have been taking things slow, either out of fear of offending other conventional global entities or doubting the enforcement capability of the board.

Focus on Gaza & Beyond

Though Gaza remains the urgent focus, the BoP seeks to broaden its outreach to other conflict areas around the world. "The charter calls for nations to work together in pursuit of durable stability, improved governance, and protection of civilians."
