Donald Trump said progress is being made in Ukraine-Russia peace efforts, hinting that positive news could emerge as new US-backed talks begin.

Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks: US President Donald Trump said he feels positive about efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Speaking to reporters, he shared that discussions between the two sides seem to be moving forward. He suggested that a diplomatic breakthrough could happen soon and said there might be good news ahead.
Trump described the war as a “ridiculous war.” He claimed that about 25,000 people are dying each month, which he said is lower than the earlier number of 31,000. He spoke about the heavy human loss, saying many of those dying are young people with families. He added that while the war may not directly affect the United States in one way, the loss of so many lives still matters.
Trump compared his approach with that of former President Joe Biden. He claimed Biden had given away $350 billion and spent too much money. Trump said he makes other countries pay their share. He also stated that European nations are paying back the US for weapons. According to him, the United Nations has a limited role, while the US is pressuring allies to carry more of the financial burden.
In a separate video, Trump talked about several global conflicts, including issues involving Iran, Russia, Ukraine, and the Middle East. He said many of these problems existed long before he took office. He also claimed that he had settled eight wars and repeated that progress was being made in talks related to Ukraine and Russia.
Reportedly a new round of US-supported peace negotiations is scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi after a short delay. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that officials from Russia, Ukraine, and the United States will meet for two days of discussions. He described the talks as complex, saying some issues are easier to agree on, while others remain difficult.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine will send representatives to the talks. The meeting was first planned for the weekend but was postponed because of scheduling problems. Reports say the US has been encouraging both sides for the past year to find compromises. However, major challenges still exist as the war nears its fourth year.
A key issue is whether Russia will be allowed to keep Ukrainian land it has captured, especially in the eastern industrial regions. Russia also wants control of other areas it has not taken. At the same time, Russian drone and missile strikes continue to hit civilian targets and infrastructure, leaving some parts of Ukraine without heating, electricity, or water during winter.
Peskov also confirmed that Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev recently traveled to the US for talks with American officials, but no details were shared.
Ukraine is also working to stop Russian forces from using Starlink satellite terminals to guide drones. Kyiv has asked Elon Musk and SpaceX to prevent unauthorized access. Musk said online that the actions taken so far appear to be working.
