The United States and Israel carried out coordinated military attacks on Iran on Saturday, targeting government buildings in central Tehran. President Donald Trump announced that the US military had begun “major combat operations” aimed at destroying Iran’s nuclear and missile programmes, while calling on the Iranian people to rise against their government.
Reports from Iran indicated explosions in Tehran and several other locations across the country. State-run media confirmed that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was “safe and sound.” The strikes reportedly focused on areas in Tehran that host the presidential palace and the National Security Council.
In an eight-minute video posted on social media, Trump stated that the US operation’s goal is to eliminate “imminent threats from the Iranian regime, a vicious group of very hard, terrible people.” He stressed that Iran’s “terrorist regime” could never obtain a nuclear weapon.
“I’ll say it again – they can never have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said. He also claimed the US had already obliterated Iran’s nuclear programme last June, accusing Tehran of attempting to rebuild it and develop long-range missiles capable of threatening “friends and allies in Europe” and potentially the US homeland.
Amid rising tensions, the Indian embassy in Israel urged citizens to “exercise utmost caution and remain vigilant at all times” due to the security situation. Indians were advised to strictly follow safety instructions from Israeli authorities and the Home Front Command.
The Indian mission in Tehran reiterated earlier advice for all Indian nationals to leave Iran, warning them to “exercise extreme caution, avoid unnecessary movements and remain indoors.” Currently, more than 40,000 Indians live in Israel, while about 10,000 reside in Iran.
Trump claimed that the US had repeatedly sought a deal with Iran, which he alleged rejected “every opportunity to renounce their nuclear ambitions.” He described the military operation as necessary to prevent the “wicked radical dictatorship from threatening America and our core national security interests.”
He added that the strikes are aimed at destroying Iran’s missile industry, crippling its navy, and neutralizing terrorist proxies destabilizing the region.
“This regime will soon learn that no one should challenge the strength and might of the US armed forces,” Trump said. He urged Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, armed forces, and police to surrender their weapons to “have complete immunity” or face “certain death.”
Trump also directly addressed the Iranian people, encouraging them to seize control of their government after the operation concludes. “When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take, this will be probably your only chance for generations,” he said. “Now is the time to seize control of your destiny and to unleash the prosperous and glorious future that is close within your reach. This is the moment for action, do not let it pass.”
The Indian embassy in Israel further instructed citizens to stay near designated shelters, familiarize themselves with protected spaces, avoid non-essential travel, and monitor local news and emergency alerts.
“The embassy remains closely engaged with the relevant authorities and will continue to issue updates as necessary,” the advisory said.
