US Iran Peace Deal Latest News: JD Vance Clears the Air
Recently, multiple rumours emerged that US Vice President JD Vance was snubbed from Iranian foreign minister and diplomat Abbas Araghchi. This morning, Vance dismissed all such claims during a press conference just before leaving Switzerland.
When questioned by a reporter about whether he felt snubbed by Araghchi, Vance said “I mean, trust me, I’ve spent a lot of time dealing with the Iranians over the last few months. Sometimes I find them extremely confusing as negotiators”.
The rumours stem from a viral video during the US Switzerland negotiations in Lucerne, Switzerland where Araghchi entered the room, greeted Pakistani and Qatari officials but gave the cold shoulder to Vance. He subsequently left the room, without any interaction with Vance. Iranian authorities have not responded to the video or the snub rumours so far.
US Iran Peace Deal Latest News: Ghalibaf’s Big Update on Strait of Hormuz
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s parliamentary speaker and a key negotiator spoke to reporters while on the return flight from Lucerne to Tehran. He shared that the US and Iran have “reached an agreement to establish coordination mechanisms — a telephone hotline and a center so that if any ambiguity or issue arises, ships can contact that center”.
The measures will allow for safe, hassle free transit in the Strait of Hormuz and also ‘prevent any misunderstandings’. The hotline would also allow for ‘the highest level of safety and traffic flow’
Ghalibaf also affirmed that the strategic waterway, that handles close to 20% of the world’s total oil trade “can never return to what it was before the war”. He added that it will be “managed under Iranian arrangements”, even though Iran shares the strait with Oman and UAE.
Israel Issues Threat to Lebanon
Last week, Israel and Lebanon agreed to a ceasefire. But this morning, Jerusalem issued a fresh threat about potential attacks in Hezbollah affiliated areas.

“The [Israeli army] will continue to act with determination in order to neutralize threats against our soldiers and our citizens, demolish terrorist infrastructure, and maintain the security zone in southern Lebanon,” the Israeli’s Prime Minister’s office said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Meanwhile, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun discussed efforts to maintain the ceasefire, in an alleged call with JD Vance.
US Iran Peace Deal Latest News: Current Status of Iran’s Nuclear Weapons Programme
After the conclusion of negotiations in Switzerland, Washington and Tehran have given conflicting comments about the Iranian weapons programme. US President Donald Trump said that failure to prevent Iran from possessing or acquiring nuclear weapons could lead to a potential global depression.
“If they don’t abide by – well, nuclear weapon supersedes depression”, he explained to the American press. President Trump then added that “Depression is real bad, A nuclear weapon will cause depression much more quickly.”
Previously, JD Vance claimed that Iran agreed to allow nuclear inspectors into the country. But in, Tehran, foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei refuted the claims, called them false and stated that there were “no new commitments” with regards to the nuclear weapons.
