US issues ‘leave now’ advisory for Americans in Iran amid escalating US-Iran tensions and crucial nuclear talks in Oman.
US Issues Urgent Advisory for Citizens in Iran: The US government has issued its latest advisory to Americans who live in Iran because of rising tensions in West Asia. The US Virtual Embassy in Tehran warned Americans not to rely on any government assistance for evacuation. The advisory warned that people should leave Iran immediately, and they should create an exit plan that does not depend on US government assistance because security has become worse, and travel has been interrupted.
The advisory described multiple obstacles that created major difficulties because of the existing situation.
Iranian authorities keep restricting people from using mobile networks and landline services, and national internet connections.
US citizens should use land routes to exit Iran because air travel options are restricted, with Armenia and Türkiye serving as safe entry points.
The US government advises citizens who cannot leave their location to identify a safe area while they need to gather food, water, medicines, and remain indoors because they should not participate in public protests. Americans need to keep their presence hidden while they stay alert about their environment and use local news sources to track developments and charge their communication devices for contact with family members.
The advisory comes ahead of scheduled talks between the US and Iran in Oman on Friday, focused on Tehran’s nuclear program.
The two sides reached an agreement after their discussions, which followed a 12-day Israel-Iran conflict and an Iranian government crackdown against demonstrators. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has already departed for Oman to participate in the talks.
The relationship between the US-Iran has remained tense since the Islamic Revolution of 1979, which ended Iran's position as a major ally of the United States.
The US increased its military presence in the Gulf region, which, combined with President Donald Trump's forceful remarks, created growing doubts about potential military conflict.
