Israel‑Iran Latest News: With the middle East war hitting its fourth day, former President Donald Trump has categorically without any negotiations with Iran claiming that the armed forces of the nation have been completely nullified. His statements follow the US and Israeli combined attacks on Iran strategic targets that indicate the toughening of his position in the face of increasing instability in the region.
According to the recent attacks, Trump said that the air defence systems, Air Force, Navy and the leadership structure of Iran were destroyed by the attacks. He also indicated that Tehran had tried to revive talks on the nuclear control and ballistic missile developments but he declined the advances as being too late. Analysts observe that this rhetoric highlights a major change in the US attitude to the use of maximum pressure instead of diplomatic involvement.
Although Trump has been dismissive, the Iranian officials have suggested that they will be willing to negotiate, albeit conditionally. Dr Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, the representative of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, confirmed that Iran would not mind negotiating with dignity. The killing of Khamenei during the strikes is a significant escalation and makes it difficult to reach out to the diplomacy immediately.
Trump justified the February 28 attacks in a letter to the Congress, explaining that the attacks were aimed at ballistic missile bases, maritime mining stations, air defence systems, and command stations. The letter noted that there were not US ground forces engaged in the operation and made the operation critical in protecting US forces, supporting Israel and protecting the maritime trade on the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Al Jazeera reports, Israel also made a strike on a senior Iranian commander. Although the Israeli military has not written about the result of the entire operation, the operation underscores the increasing military involvement between the two countries.
The human toll is mounting and the state media in Iran said that more than 150 schoolgirls were shot dead in the attacks and this led to a mass funeral with thousands of people attending the funeral. On TV, we can see images of huge masses of people crying and protesting the atrocities, which reveals the increase of domestic disgust and state sorrow.
Ever since the first attacks, Iran has taken counter measures to attack US bases and Israeli positions in the country. As Trump rejects talks and Iran is proving to be less open with severe conditions, the prospect of a diplomatic solution seems even more distant, and the danger of a long-term conflict increases.
