US-Iran War Latest News: As the Iran ceasefire nears its scheduled end on April 23, diplomatic tensions have increased after US President Donald Trump signalled that Washington may not extend the truce without a concrete agreement.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Trump made his position clear, stating that an extension remains uncertain. He said it is “highly unlikely” that he would extend the ceasefire with Iran if a deal is not reached. His comments come at a critical moment when both sides are preparing for possible renewed negotiations.

The two-week ceasefire was introduced after months of tension between the US and Iran, but uncertainty now surrounds its continuation as both sides remain divided on key issues, especially Iran’s nuclear programme.

US-Iran War Latest News: US Delegation Travels to Pakistan for Possible Second Peace Talks

Reports suggest that a high-level US delegation led by Vice President JD Vance is travelling to Pakistan for the next round of discussions with Iranian representatives. Trump also indicated that senior officials are part of the team.

“They’re heading over now,” Trump said. “They’ll be there tonight.”

Alongside Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner are also reportedly part of the delegation. However, US officials have not officially confirmed Vance’s travel schedule or the exact nature of the meeting in Islamabad.

The planned talks are expected to build on earlier diplomatic efforts but continue to face uncertainty due to a lack of formal confirmation from Iran.

US-Iran War Latest News: First Round of Talks Ended Without a Breakthrough

The US and Iran previously held rare direct discussions in Islamabad on April 11 and 12. Those talks marked an attempt to reduce tensions and explore a potential long-term agreement.

However, the negotiations ended without a deal. The US side maintained that Iran was unwilling to give up its nuclear ambitions, while Iranian officials raised concerns over trust and accused Washington of inconsistency in its approach.

The failure of the first round has placed additional pressure on both sides ahead of the upcoming diplomatic window.

US-Iran War Latest News: Iran Remains Cautious amid Trust Concerns

Despite reports of renewed engagement, Iran has not confirmed its participation in the next round of talks. Officials in Tehran have cited deep mistrust toward Washington as a major barrier to progress.

The uncertainty over Iran’s involvement raises questions about the effectiveness of the upcoming discussions in Islamabad, even as the US pushes for a negotiated outcome before the ceasefire expires.

Analysts believe that without mutual trust and clear commitments, the diplomatic process may struggle to move forward.

With the ceasefire deadline approaching, the situation remains fluid. While the US signals urgency through diplomatic outreach, Iran’s silence and unresolved differences over nuclear policy continue to cast doubt on a near-term agreement.
